Nutracon Conference 2010

Antioxidant Science

Polyphenolics

There is perhaps no more colorful word or arguably one of most recognized terms in nutrition science than antioxidants. In 2006 AC Nielson found that as many as 54% of people who care little about their health were drawn to products that contain the word antioxidant. Since then the trend has continued for both health neglectors and health activists with the introduction of high antioxidant SuperFruit based beverages, foods and nutricosmetics. Current science has closely examined antioxidant vitamins and cofactors with sometimes sensational results.

This Nutracon track offers a close look at the state and science of antioxidants, picking up where two of the Nutracon's 2009 most engaging tracks, SuperFruits and Vitamins and Minerals left off. Panelists will explore antioxidant science in vitro and in vivo. In addition, participants will gain an understanding of consumer awareness, attitudes and appetite as well as current marketing practices and shortfalls.
